Phosphorus Management in Slovakia—A Case Study

Recently, phosphorus (P) has become a material that is the focus of many countries, including EU, due to its scarcity. EU countries significantly depend on P export/import lack extraction and deposits. In this paper, an economic analysis management in Slovakia as source for responsible sustainable exploitation reuse presented based available sources, whether traditional (P rock mining), recovery recycling (from surface water, un/treated wastewater, sewage sludge, sludge ash) or alternative urine, manure, slaughter waste, steelmaking slag). The current state shows there no mined, recovered recycled from any resources. All imported, mostly other countries. But are several possible except mining, with estimated sources water (14,933 t per year), treated wastewater (285 (49,125 urine (433,806 manure (1,626,132 waste (456 year) slag (4214 year). explicit identification effective strategy was done by Strength-Weaknesses-Opportunities-Threats (SWOT) analysis, corresponding factors were identified quantified. As deposits mined facilities existing at present Slovakia, declining trend cattle breeding produced amount absence ash, low potential compounds slags connection governmental support, instability steel production, reduction production breeding, animal significant dependence import number main results SWOT suggests should be guided principles retreat strategy.
